Around the city of Montreal you will find billboards with strong messages against stereotyping and discrimating those with HIV or AIDS. This is an opportune time as Montreal and the World were celebrating World AIDS Day on the 1st of December. These billboards are ironic because those asylum seekers from Africa suffering from Aids are not allowed in Montreal. The discrimination is already underway as we are talking. As a refugee, before coming to Canada, you have to undergo a costly medical check-up to ensure that you are healthy and ‘fit for immigration’. I still remember a family who were found with the HIV virus and were therefore refused the opportunity to immigrate. They are still in a Tanzanian refugee with one if their children dead. On the other hand, a Canadian with HIV/AIDS can go anywhere he/she wants. This is survival of the fittest.
Is this reasonable?

Montreal snowstorms and refugees
Montreal was a mess late Monday afternoon as the city was hit by the first major snowstorm this season. While driving on Highway 40 East, I heard the announcer on the Radio proudly saying that the traffic jam started from the Sources in the west all the way to Anjou! Other highways were experiencing the same troubles.
A Congolese family from a Mozambican refugee Camp were spending their first evening in Montreal. According to them, this was their first evening of ‘peace and quiet’ after living in war torn areas and refugee camps for more than 10 years. The 3 youngest children were born in refugee camps. When I asked them what they thought of snow, the young children responded almost in unison: "snow is like white corn flour only cold and with a taste of water.” As I was driving them from the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Montreal Airport, the announcer on the radio was talking about the current accusations of corruption in the provincial government, the debate on high tuition fees in universities, construction companies having close ties to the Government owing money from taxes etc. As I was listening to all this information, the refugee family members were simply happy to be safe in a country where they will not be fearing for their lives as they did back in the camps. Snowing or not, they will safer than they were last week.

Why Malawi and Africa needs Jon Stewart
He is America's most trusted man. He is smart, says what he wants and he says it at the time when the ears of the listeners want to be tickled with his logic. He knows when to hit the notes and how high or low they should sound. Politicians fear and at the same time like him. If Jon Stewart was in Africa (By Africa here I mean Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, Uganda, Malawi, Libya etc), he would have been asked to stop talking and to forget about his right to express his opinions. He would have been threatened many times and if he persevered; he will be.....(Please fill in yourself)
Why do Africans need a Jon Stewart? Because he talks about the reality as it is. Though seeing the world with liberal glasses; he publicizes what people are talking while drinking with their buddies, he advertises to the world the needs of the public not forgetting takings swaps at politicians. He amplifies the undertone murmurs of Americans. Africa needs such liberty of expression. In many African countries; Mr Stewart would be tried and probably accused of inciting the masses to action. violence. On the other hand, America likes Jon. The American President, Mr Barack Obama even appeared on his show last Wednesday. You better like him or you end up fired like CNN's Rick Sanchez.
Jon Stewart and faux conservative workmate Steven Colbert are organizing the "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" which in many African countries would be considered treason and an attempt to encourage the masses to rebel against the status quo.

Malawi Limewire Africa
Limewire is shut and for many Africans in the diaspora, this is sad news. They used Limewire to legally share music from their respective countries. After 4 years of an ongoing legal battle, Limewire was shut yesterday by a court in Manhattan. The company was asked to cease any "searching, downloading, uploading and file trading." The Limewire website had the legal notice: "This is an official notice that LimeWire is under a court-ordered injunction to stop distributing and supporting its file-sharing software. Downloading or sharing copyrighted content without authorization is illegal."
The Law is the law, and should therefore be enforced and respected.
A Malawian living in Washington was clearly disappointed by the development saying that Limewire was used to share music with his friends and family from Blantyre and Lilongwe in Malawi. He also said that he must find another way to listen to Malawian classic artists like Saleta Phiri, Alan Namoko, Esau Mwamwaya and Evison Matafale.

The Queen of Pop strikes again! She wants to adopt another Malawian child. Why does she have to publicize her every move? Is it because she wants publicity or simply because she wants others to follow her footsteps. In reality, Malawians are tired of hearing Madonna rumbling about her trips to Africa and how she wants to change the World. The publicity surrounding her trips is simply outrageous. Every move that she makes while visiting Malawi is reported via Internet to the the World. Her accommodation, eating and drinking becomes news articles. Sadly, whenever this extensive reporting goes on, the victims are none other than us-the Malawian people who end up always getting some negative press. Way to go Madonna, you can adopt me too!
